Empire College accounting students provide free tax preparation

For the eighth consecutive year, Empire College accounting students and faculty will be assisting United Way of the Wine Country in delivering free income tax services to low-to-moderate income residents through the Earn it! Keep It! Save It! (EKS)/Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. In order to participate in this unique, hands-on learning opportunity, each student has become IRS certified in advanced tax preparation.

SANTA ROSA, CA - For the fourth consecutive year, Empire College has been named to President Obama’s 2015 Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction. The honor roll program annually highlights the role colleges and universities play in solving community problems and placing students on a lifelong path of civic engagement.

Empire College in Santa Rosa, California, has earned national recognition from the White House – with distinction– the past three years on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. In 2013 it was one of 19 finalists for the top award. The national award recognizes public and private colleges and universities that inspire lifelong civic engagement among their students and achieve meaningful, measurable outcomes in the communities they serve.

Donated, Refurbished Computers Benefit the Community

Hardware instructor Scott Wilcox has given away many small items as needed by tech students and has picked up recycled equipment to help the person/company dispose of items and help others. This has led to a recycling and donation system that has provided his students in Empire's information technology programs with computers that can be used to build a network at home.
