Important Information about the Distribution of Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF)

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (“CARES Act”) Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) provides funding to students whose lives have been disrupted as a result of the coronavirus global pandemic.

The U.S. Department of Education has made available emergency financial aid grants to students of institutions, including Empire College, who need financial support for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the COVID-19 outbreak, including things like course materials and technology, as well as food, housing, health care, and childcare. Empire College began issuing HEERF grants to students on June 24, 2020; details are included in the report link below.

2020 Commencements

Unfortunately we have had to postpone the May 31 Law School and June 22 Business School commencement ceremonies due to the risks associated with COVID-19 and based on guidance from public health officials. Consideration was given to holding the ceremonies in a remote format. However, after hosting these ceremonies since Empire College’s founding in 1961, we know that the magic comes from being surrounded by your classmates, instructors, family, and friends while you are recognized for your outstanding achievements. With that in mind, we plan to hold our 2020 commencement ceremonies in September/October to honor our graduates, so long as it is safe to do so based on guidance from public health officials. More details surrounding the ceremonies will be forthcoming as we draw nearer to the date.
